Sound Opinions
ACL was a blast. Not many people I knew went this year. Granted the schedule, in my opinion, was not quite the caliber it has been in the previous two years that I have attended but it was definitely worth it. I grew up hearing about music festivals like Lollapalooza, Coachella and Reading and would always pick out all the bands that I wanted to see, knowing that I would not be going. It’s 1992: “Hey mom, I know we live in a log cabin out here on Quail Hollow in Clinton, Mississippi but can we please fly over to Reading to see the Smashing Pumpkins, the Beasties and Nirvana? No? Well can we go to Bebop records next time we head over to Metro Center Mall and grab a few cassettes? Awesome!” She did drive my friends and I to see the Pumpkins in Biloxi, MS April 8, 1994. We returned to the motel room that night to have Kurt Loder tell us that Kurt Cobain had been found dead earlier that evening. Anyway, I always wished that I lived someplace cool where you could actually go see all of these bands that I loved so much. Many people complain about how the festival can be such a pain in the ass. But did they grow up in a town where the coolest place to hang out was a grocery store parking lot? I don’t know. So now I live in Austin and I’m going to the goddamn ACL festival every year. I might even start buying issues of Guitar World again. I’ll have a few ACL pictures posted in a few days.

ACL FEST
The Austin City Limits Festival is this weekend. I’m pretty excited. I’m not excited that I have to work the Texas vs. Arkansas game early Saturday and will miss a portion of the early day festivities. Some highlights for me will be:

- Erykah Badu
- Hot Chip
- Spiritualized
- Del the Funk
- Man Man
- David Byrne
