Absalom, Absalom!
I just finished reading Absalom, Absalom! by ol’ William Faulkner the other day. I can say without hesitation that Absalom was my favorite out of the handful of his books I’ve read. It’s no revelation that Faulkner is a black-belt writer but I think I’m going to have to say that Absalom was probably one of the best books I’ve ever read by anyone. I can’t remember the last 30 or so pages of any other novel giving me the rush of excitement and adrenaline that Absalom, Absalom! gave! Anyway, the day after I finished the book the New York Times reported that Sally Wolff-King, a scholar of Southern literature at Emory University, had discovered an old plantation diary as a “source for myriad names, incidents and details that populate his fictionalized Yoknapatawpha County.” It’s a pretty interesting read.

Side note: I got a subscription for the Sunday edition of the NY Times around mid-December and so far have only received three papers, one of which was soaked in rain. Damn you paper boy!
